The project attempts to make a parody of religion.
The theological argument for the project is that increasing scrutiny of the religion reduces the faith into a 'hollow corpse'. Some of the negative things we see in religion are such that: prime religious figures committed egregious sins, TV Evangelis made the preaching of God a tv show, St. Stephan Cathedral is a tourist attraction,...etc.. Many feel that religion is a grandiose relic on the outside but hollow on the inside without substance. This false celebration of God becomes the theme of the project.
'Exquisite Corpse' or a hollow skeleton serves the project metaphorically as well as formally. The entire project is a composition of 'ribs' or lines, a parallel that is found in Gothic Cathedral's pointed vault and nave design. Skin that resembles that of a snake then clings on to the ribs or skeleton to form the base of the cathedral and slowly creeping up to the hollow tower that historically serves as the union of God and mankind. A semi-enclosed and sunken space beneath the skin serves the Mass and other religious gatherings with an Altar in the centre that employs the typology of a theatre in an attempt to turn the Celebration of God into a show for all to see and becomes an attraction for the cathedral. Chapels and other functions are thne organized around this central space.
The project has also utilized the most significant development in Gothic Cathedrals in that of the 'exoskeleton' of the flying buttresses. The tower is composed of three spirals that serve as the prime structure to support the elevator shaft and the skydeck at the top of the tower. This exoskeleton reinforces the idea of a hollow skeleton formally and metaphorically: it reduces the mass of the secondary structure, the elevator shaft, and made the tower truly a skeleton.
